چکیده
Since 1940, when Mazzotti first reported human cases of Chagas’ disease in Mexico (observed at the town of Teojomulco in Oaxaca State--I), over 150 parasitologically confirmed acute and chronic cases have been reported, most of them in Mexico’s Pacific zone (2). During this period there have been seven epidemiologic investigations of Chagas’ disease in Mexico: the first by Biagi and colleagues in 1958 at Tutuapan, Mexico State (3) ; the second by Biagi and Tay in 1964 at Tetitlan, Guerrero State; the third by Tay and colleagues in 1966 in Michoacan State (4); the fourth by Zavala and colleagues (5); the fifth by Ortega and colleagues in 1976 in Chiapas State (6); the sixth by Tay, Salazar, and colleagues in Jalisco State (7); and the seventh the investigation in Oaxaca State that is being reported here.

In vitro Anti-epimastigote Activity of some Iranian Medicinal Plants
Some medicinal plants are a potential source of new drugs, in order to improve the treatment of Chagas disease whose treatment is still a challenge. In this study, the in vitro anti-epimastigote activity of certain fractions of Achillea biebersteinii, A. millefolium, Satureja mutica and S. macrantha was evaluated. Diethyl ether fractions of Achillea species and acetone fractions of Satureja spe...

Trypanosoma cruzi, a hemoflagellate protozoan (family Trypanosomatidae), is the ethiological agent of Chagas disease, which is affecting 16-18 million people, with more than 100 million exposed to the risk of infection. Higher plants are a potential source of new drugs to improve the treatment of Chagase disease. Until recently, Rutacea, Meliaceae, Simaroubaceae and Burceraceae families have be...
متن کاملClinical and epidemiologic studies of Chagas' disease in rural communities in Oaxaca State, Mexico, and a seven-year follow-up: I. Cerro del Aire.
In 1971, serologic studies in the Mexican state of Oaxaca revealed unusually high chagasic infection in certain communities. This article reports the results of 1973 and 1980 follow-up work performed in one of those communities, Cerro de1 Aire, which shows that the infection caused significant electrocardiographic abnormalities in seropositive persons (as compared to seronegative persons), with...
